I moved to the south of France with my husband, Michael (called dude)and daughter, Presley (Tinki). We actually have 4 children, but the older three remained in the USA, Tinki is the baby of the family, and made the big move with us. This is our journey to becoming French, I would like to think I am living the dream. Although, I have to admit there are days when it is a nightmare. I spend my days working for an international company and my weekends taking road trips to see as much of France as possible. I love history and traveling. This is my life as a tourist. I am not what you would call a “Professional Blogger” by any means. So bear with me. As in life, I am finding my way.

  1. Hi Ashley! I have been following your blog; love reading of your journey. I had a quick question: do you have any tips for finding a position with an international company. France has always been the dream for me, however, I would need to work. I am aware that most positions require EU status. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

  2. Ashley, I did not get the email from you. Could you re-send? Thank you very much!

    • Ok- I just recent it. It’s called “Hi from backyardprovence blog answering your question about work in France”
I hope you receive it. I sent it to the email that appears on my blog when you submit a response. Don’t forget to check your spam folder. I always forget to do that and inevitably I find emails that should have been in the inbox!

      Have a great weekend!

  3. Just visited you neck of the woods recently. You truly are in heaven!

  4. Hello my dear, your blog is so awesome and I’ve nominated you for the ABC Award, check it out here: http://allaboutlemon.com/2012/02/09/abc-award/
Congratulations! Enjoy and have fun ๐Ÿ™‚
    dolly xoxo

    • Man, where the heck was I in February when I got nominated and never new it? Oh wait, I remember, freezing my behind off with no heat and days of no internet! Thanks for the nomination!!!

  5. I just found your blog and am looking forward to reading through it. My s-i-l and b-i-l live near Avignon, so I’ve been able to spend some time with them. Lovely!! I especially love the markets and the fresh fruits and veggies. Of course, the wine and chevre aren’t too shabby, either!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Looks like your blog roll has some places I’ll explore, too. Stop by my blog anytime; you’re always welcome. And enjoy Provence!

    • Hi Janet, Thanks for reading ๐Ÿ™‚ Lucky you for having family near Avignon. I love that town. There is so much to see and do there. I love the markets as well. It’s so much fun to stroll and shop. It makes me feel really “French”! Thank goodness that spring is coming and the weather will be perfect for strolling the markets!

  6. Oops sorry the Sunshine Award.

    • Hey Yogaleigh! Thanks so much for my nomination. I’m a bit behind on the award meanings so I have to confess I don’t know what that award means! I’ll google it thought so I am up to date ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Hi Ashley!
We are coming to Provence late Aug for 10 days. We found this charming B&B.. do you know the area? http://www.au-chateau.com/Juvenal.htm We are planning to base there and do day trips around the area. Please let me know if this seems like a good choice. It sounds lovely on paper!!!
LOVE reading your blog.. we live in the mtns of North Carolina and have some of the same challenges with getting things done. Here it is all done on “mountain time”… slooooowww!
Stop by my recipe blog and visit! thesoutherncook.blogspot.com.
    Warm regards,

    • Hi Helen-The chateau you’ve picked to stay at sounds fantastic! I haven’t seen it or heard anything about it, but it sure looks like a terrific find and maybe I’ll go stay there, too! After your visit, please do tell about it and send pictures. I would love to get your thought on how the stay was. You will be right in the middle of a ton of things to do so I think you will really like it. BTW-I would go for the offered massages at the end of each day that the chateau says they do. A girl always needs one of those after a long day of vacationing ๐Ÿ™‚

As for your “mountain time”, I am soooo aware of that! My father-in-law used to have a cabin in the mountains at Lake Arrowhead in California and boy did we ever experience mountain time there when it came to getting something done! Maybe the mountain time people are actually descendents of the French! They both keep the same “time” so you never know!

I will stop by your blog for some new recipes. Thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Photo Media

Hi Ashley, Just wanted to thank you again for the award (not sure how many awards there are out there ๐Ÿ™‚ but I’ve posted the link http://wp.me/pDYuL-1Ai

  9. Hi Ashley! I wanted to let you know that Iโ€™ve nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award! Thanks for such an enjoyable blog. Hereโ€™s the link: http://megtraveling.com/2012/06/08/reader-appreciation-and-very-inspiring-blogger-awards/

  10. Very sweet introduction ๐Ÿ™‚ I love it! I hope to experience (live) in another country someday. Benoit was the name of our french exchange student when I was younger! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Hi Lilly Sue! Thanks for your comment ๐Ÿ™‚ I do think everyone should have the chance to live in another country, even if it is only a short time. Those of us who actually get to taste the sweetness of the experience are indeed lucky! As for Benoit, I think that it’s such a cool French name. I wanted to be sure he felt all chic and Frenchie while taking us on tours of Provence, so the name seem to fit ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Hey, I just nominated you for the Beautiful Blogger Award!! Check out the details here: http://lillysuesbitesandbrews.com/2012/06/30/life-is-beautiful/

  12. Hi Ashley, i have been religiously reading your old blog aixenprovence.typepad for aboรบt 5 months – after i decided to come study at IAE-Aix. Thx a lot. Ur blog was so informative, and told me a lot about Aix. I finally arrived on Sunday. It’s a huge step for me, having never been out of my country for more than a month! I sent a mail to ur address at verizon.net but it came back undelivered. Dat was when i googled ur name again and found out – just yday – that u had another blog. Wot’s ur new email so i can reforward my mail to u? I also need new up-to-date advice on Aix-en-Provence. Based on ur advice in that blog, i reached out to ICCP Aix; and i may be attending the church picnic this wknd. Hope to hear from u soon.

    • Hello Juyin! I’m very glad that my blog on Aix is still a hit even though it was written some time ago. My verizon email was disconnected when I left the states. You can send me a direct email at adavidsonfisher19(at)yahoo.com. I hope you are enjoying your time in Aix. I absolutely loved living there. It has changed quite a bit since then, though. I have stopped writing this blog for a while now due to other commitments that have been taking up a grand majority of my time. I will do my best to answer any questions you have regarding Aix and to help you get around. It would be my pleasure. I am a bit out of date on things now since I don’t get there very often, but hopefully, I can help out at least a bit ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Hey Ashley, I haven’t see you blogging for a while now. Everything ok? Any plans to start back up again? Hope you’re doing well, and I’m sure your readers would love an update on that house of yours! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Hi Frye,

I missed blogging, but hope to be back soon. I’m doing fine and have a ton of updates to give my readers. Hopefully in the near future I’ll be able to get back into it.
Hope all is well with you ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Yes, Ashley, we miss you!!! Hope all is well!

  15. Pete Marston

Love the site, Ashley. Hope to see you back and blogging soon!

  16. Hi Ashley, I have just discovered your blog and have been enjoying reading it, especially the posts about fashion faux pas! I am thinking of moving (with my young family) to France from the UK and wondered if you had any advice about what to do in advance of moving. I’m also starting a blog, as a diary as much as anything else: http://www.escapetothecontinent.com/

    • Hi Rachel,

Have you moved, yet? Sorry took so long to get back to you. I don’t really post anymore (but would like to get back to it). Between the house, work and two children who had serious health issues, I had to stop writing. There just wasn’t the time. Since you’re coming from the UK to France you will have a much better time upon your arrival than I had coming from The USA. The French Administration has not been so kind to us since we are not coming from an EU member state. If you need some specific advise I can surely try and help. Please email me your phone number and I can give you a ring and try and answer any questions you have.

I hope to speack to you soon,

Que pensez-vous?
